Went back to the spot where I found my CS tongue and Script I button today. Readings are getting few and far between, but I did manage to dig a couple bullets and this brass barrel band. It’s marked with a U (so it’s American) but I don’t recognize the gun it came off of. Thoughts?

I just found this, looks like it’s from a Confederate Fayetteville Rifle.

That will worth some big bucks to someone restoring a Fayetteville rifle, nice find. Shoot a picture over to Dave at lodgewood manufacturing in white water Wisconsin and give him the dementions, he can confirm what you have. There are a few more brass mounted US civil war guns with “ flat” barrel bands like the model 1855 Harper’s ferry, Richmond Sharpes and one other manufactured in Philadelphia whose name is escaping me. But I’m pretty sure the Fayetteville and the 1855 used the same barrel bands, either way, sweet find!!!!!

Awesome relic recovery! :occasion14:

Thank you Joe, I’ll do that!

Great piece of history nice save

I sent a picture to Larry Hicklen and he agreed that it’s from a Fayetteville Rifle. Nice to have it identified.

Congrats on a sweet Southern relic.

Another one of those items, "If only it could talk".
