Brass found in old farm area

Any ideas what this may be? Found near an old dirt road in the woods near a livery stable site. Penny is just for sizing. Thanks.

Hombre, from your picture it is hard to tell if the item is flat, round, or both. Maybe another picture or 2 from a different angles?

The object is cylindrical except for the last 3/8 inch which is flattened a bit, but not as flat as a screw driver. It als has a slight bend to it, but I do not know if that was damage or natural condition. It also has a tiny pinhole on the round end. Here are some more pix.

Two people at my metal detecting club right away said it was a shaft from a skeleton key.
