Re: Brass Disk Cap-no clue

Well, folks, I just happen to have a cast iron Piggy Bank, and of course the ONE thing I'm looking for is the money cap, and it's missing. The cap is too big to fit this bank, plus my cap is more oval than round. It looks round in the pic, but it is ovate.

I think ToT may be on to something as far as a mold is concerned. In the same area where I found this cap, I found a some lead from a lead ladle as shown. I borrowed some Play-Doh(that stuff still smells like I want to eat it) from my granddaughter's toy box and made an impression. Any bells ringing out there??? Thanks again, Breezie

Re: Brass Disk Cap-no clue

Looks similar to one side of a "gate" for a small gate valve.

Re: Brass Disk Cap-no clue

Well, I'm gonna marked this one solved, and go with B-John & J-Henry on the Piggy Bank enclosure cap. (Although I have no idea why some company would use BRASS to make a cap for a bank.) I think the mold idea was a novel concept, but after looking at the results of Play-Doh, it really didn't look like anything practical or useful. . . .but if anyone comes up with a pic of a thingie bobbie that looks like this molded, please post. As always, thanks to all who helped. Breezie

Re: Brass Disk Cap-no clue

i'm not saying it is'nt a bank plug, but what i'm wondering is how would it stay in the bank? :icon_scratch:

I was talking with a fellow antique dealer today, and after looking at this cap in person, he doesn't believe it is a bank cap closure. He said a bank cap would not have an open end area, plus it would be round, not ovate. He felt like it could be some type of mold as ToT mentioned, but didn't recognize the result of the relief. He said it would be the correct size for a military badge or some type of rosette, yet couldn't understand why it was a single mold instead of a sheet or tray of them. Soooo, I guess it goes back into the IDK box unless someone has an epiphany. Thanks, Breezie
