This brass disc was found on an early 19th century site. It's about 1-3/8" in diameter and slightly tapered from the side view. It's about 3/16" thick. There appears to be a small dagger and something else above it stamped inside the disc leading me to think it made be part of a weapon. Maybe from the stock of a rifle or hilt of a knife or sword?

Re: Brass disc, but what?

:hello:

What you have there is a Georgian trade weight, looks like a quarter-ounce :icon_thumleft:

The sword of St Paul - the City of London Guildhall mark (pre-1826) I can't see the outher symbol because the picture is off my screen.

Re: Brass disc, but what?

The symbols or verification marks of these weight during this period are standard;

Crowned 'G'
Sword
Averdepois
Ewer

Depending on the position of the marks its either KGI, KGII, KGIII, or early KGIV.

On closer examination the royal cypher is a crown with a 'C' beneath it (inverted to the right of the dagger).The other stamp is indeed a ewer. It is almost identical to others on the link you provided, it dates from 1625-1685. If only artifacts could talk. It is now in the possession of the plantation's owner and will pass to future owners for posterity.

I can't believe someone else found one of these. I just pulled this out of the ground today, also in Eastern Ma!

Any ideas on the date of this one? I've been looking all over for info.

Cheers!
