Could be the cap to a bottle of holy water carried by a priest on a string around his neck maybe? Looks Russian to me.

Other side is identical to this side. The hollow interior has no screw groves so it would be a friction fit if it is a flask topper

Obviously it was important enough to polish over and over because it is caked with left-over polish residue, which is a bear to remove. I'm going with a wine (perhaps communion) bottle stopper. Nice find, Breezie

this is kind of off of the wall, but i was thinking maybe from the hilt of a small sword/dagger/letter opener. here is the hilt of an excaliber letter opener (EDIT: the correct term is pommel)
