Hi all, dug thos the other day. 3.5" across and has a hinge part in between the hoop. Can't figure out what it was to. Thanks for any thoughts.View attachment 1777954 20191208_123450.webp
 

I notice that this has been marked as "Solved", do you now know what it is or...???

If not could you post a photo of the other side?

I think I may know what it may be but not sure just seeing the one side.

could be a rain cap from a tank filler pipe or pop off valve vent cover.

I was thinking the same either a vent cap or similar, being that it's brass I would say possibly from a gas or some other petroleum product or volatile chemical storage tank, being that brass wouldn't cause any sparks as it opened or close to vent pressure in the tank, it could also be an exhaust flap to keep rain out when the engine is not running like you see on heavy equipment or big rig trucks..but those are usually made from steel.

The loop on it would keep it from opening passed 90 degrees or most likely less so it would always fall back down and closed.

My first thought was a rain flap for the top of an exhaust pipe off heavy equipment as well. :thumbsup:
It seems a bit heavy for this application though.
