It is some sort of decorative piece. It is impossible to get an exact ID as it could really could have gone on anything. Sill very cool and definitely period though.

Is there a hole thru the top knob?

Seeing as there's no hole through the 'finial' at the top, we know that it's not a drawer-pull.
With these two holes, which look like screw holes to me, I'm thinking it's furniture decoration. :icon_scratch:

Date wise, you have a number of decoration styles going here, I'm suggesting that it's 'a turn of the 20thc fantasy design'.

Maybe the remains of a chatelaine belt clip (missing the clip on the back...). :dontknow:
