Brass Candleholder?

It looks like it to me, but I'm asking if maybe it's railroad related. Found it at the bottom of a railroad embankment with some other brass items. The others were mangled though, this was the only brass piece that looked good. Found some older coins including a 1934 silver quarter and a 1911 wheatie. Give me your opinion, thanks for looking!

Need to see the top... Could be a salt shaker with the top missing.

It could also be a bed post knob with the top missing.

unless the bottom part was broken off, I doubt it could be a "stable" candle holder. It would tip over if the table was bumped.


as a historic note: Any "thing" that is made to hold a candle, is what is called a "candlestick"....

Today, it is occasionally (incorrectly) referred to as a candlestick holder. :)
