I found this small two-piece button (no back mark) at a 19th century home site where I have found three SC militia buttons. Probably not military but the design does look familiar (can't put my finger on it). The face of the button is worn and it was hard to get a clear picture; the best way I can describe the design is a ring of sun rays (or a gear) with a lined grid inside it.
