Thanks to all who replied !! Lots of historic info,,
Greetings,
I am hoping someone can help with some history or identification of these buttons, the first was found in the vicinity of a Crumpton war of 1812 button.

Interested in date/history of the 'AJ Tower Co Boston' button, stamp on front is pressed through, can be seen on back in mirror image, can find no info of this company in my research.
Thanks to all, & Good Day, Herbie.

Great stuff creskol. :icon_thumright: It was called a slicker. Oiled cotton I guess. I remember an oldtimer explaining to me how to drain old engine oil on canvas to make it waterproof. I have a pic of a Tower slicker somewhere...

ADDED: actually its 2 layers of linen treated w/beeswax, pine tar & linseed oil :P http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/2501947

ADDED-2: Sorry Breezie, I just realized you already posted this. :-[ Ill leave the pics.

Could the first button be a thistle?

Re: Brass Button CW Era ??

Civilian wheat sheaf button, double or treble gilt (IMHO), 1812 is right on for that button. :icon_thumright:
