It is a harness buckle cover,(aka: buckle shield) first patented in 1879.

I thought about that after I wrote it, not being a buckle. Thanks.

(Edited... I meant to say not a person's belt buckle)

The BS slide could be old or more modern, they look the same today as they did long ago only the modern ones are thin metal easily bent, does this one appears to be made well and of a heavier metal or thin metal?

It has tabs and not the older riveted backing. The tabs are pretty much unbendable.

I would say it older, the ones made today the tabs are easily bent, could be from the 50s or 60s, not sure when they went to the tabs.
