Found this piece last night in a school yard that apparently has an old homeplace on it. Any thoughts on this piece? It looks like a fox on it. You can see the gilting more on the back.

Nice find those are always fun to dig! I have found a few of these cub scout neck slides and have learned a little bit on dating them. Cub scouts were formed in 1916 and from the best I have gathered the Boy scouts and Cub scouts used the same style neck slide up till 1970s 80s then the cub scout only version with the bear and blue back round became the standard for the cub scouts. Also generally speaking a way to date any of the metal rope style neck slides is by looking at the tabs on the back. Yours has the folded metal tabs were the older BSA rope style slides had a riveted cross bar. I would say your is no older then 70's or 80's.

I was a Cub Scout in the 1960s and we had slides like that.
