I'll take a guess and say the brass piece is a drain plug. It's squared to accept a wrench, or holed to accept a spike to turn it. The shell looks like it might have been made into a whistle (if the break at the base isn't acciental)

The "H" headstamp might be one of the following, though I am leaning towards the Winchester one.

H = Hirtenberger Patronen-, Zündhütchen-und Metallwarenfabrik A.-G., Hirtenberg, Niederdonau, Austria
H = Rheinische Metallwaren und Maschinenfabrik, Dusseldorf, Germany
H = Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, CT

H headstamp can stand for "henry" --as in the henry repeating rifle -- winchester repeating arms ----is thus most likely -- the cartridge case might have been made into a whistle if the hole at the end is "on purpose"

The hole in the shell casing dosn't look intentional to me. Looks like a case of case head separation. Could have injured shooter or disabled the gun.

The first image looks like an old grease "zerk."

I think if the brass piece was a grease fitting it would have a hole at the bottom for the grease to come out of as that would have been threaded into the bearing housing where the grease would need to go.

The seperation probably was cause by it being fired in an over size chamber or perhaps a chamber of a larger caliber. I have seen an almost identical case that was a .22 long rifle fired in a .22 magnum chamber. Monty
