its a thin sheet of brass from a brass kettle cut and rolled into a bead or decoration piece
then strung on a cord or string with many others and worn like a breast plate. this was
probably worn by a Pequot warrior or brave .

Copper pots and kettles were really a mainstream trade item and after they got tired of patching the holes in them …. They transformed in to mostly ornamentation.. to be warn and clothes and hair. Here are some examples. one has to remember this stuff could be shined up pretty good ( mirror like ) .. and not the dull green color it has become after sitting in the ground for a few hundred years.

Most of the Fur Trade era kettles, tinklers, hair tubes, arrow points, .etc in my area are brass.............

they are almost exclusively brass here in the north east as well , this particular piece is definitely a brass bead
