IMG_2743.JPGIMG_2743.JPGIMG_2744.JPG IMG_2744.JPGfound this cool spigot yesterday. Looks intact , just missing key. Any idea of age? P.S I usually don't buy relics but if anyone has a key for sale,I'm interested.

Sorry don’t know the date but a nice find. congrats!

You found an 18th century barrel tap. Nice find!

Sweet relic, congratulations!

I agree, 18th century on that one. In addition to the key, you need one of these caps that fit on the spigot and through which the key passed. I think they were discarded frequently so people could access the mechanism and turn the spigot on without a key. What type did your spigot take? The one with the two ears or the triangle shaped one?

The stem is triangular. I think the key has a triangular opening that fits over the stem.

I have dug 3 or 4 of the keys with the two ears, but although I have see the triangular keys, I have never dug one. The triangle type is rarer.

Over here my stats on keys are;
Triangle - 8
Square - 3
Diamond - 2
Round - 2
Rectangle - 1
Club (shape of the Club in a card set) - 1
2 ears (kind of flat line) - 1

Congrats on the great looking spigot, one my fav. relic recoveries.

I believe this is what you're looking for ....

Those are interesting stats Cru. I probably have 5 more of the caps that aren't in my picture, and they all would have taken the two eared type key. So I would have to say the two eared type was predominant in my area.

Ok, OK, now I need the key! P.S. i went back yesterday and looked EVERYWHERE for that darn key. Methinks the owner walked away with it in his pocket!

Cool find for sure! (Can't help with the date though.)

Nicely done, and all the best,

Lanny
