Probably something mechanical from one of the farm machines. I built my house on an old farm place and find stuff all the time.

Anniversary clock weights?

Flyball governors on steam engines used round weights to ,but a hole to attach them would show.

As mentioned by Tamrock,multiple uses exist(ed).

Back-bleed /Drain-back valves for well plumbing used a bronze ball.

I at first thought this to be some sort of a set up by the Windman. Lol I don't know what these were used for but possibly off some sort of farming equipment as suggested.

There is a site near me where they are often found. It was an old gun powder mill in the 19th century. The brass balls were used to grind the powder to eliminate the chance of sparks that would result from iron balls.

Yea, I guess to work in a place like that you would need brass balls.
