I found this brass object while hunting a Union camp in Vicksburg today. It was bent up and I've done my best to straighten it out. price01.webpprice02.webpThis piece may or may not be from the civil war. Need some help in identitying. It has four distinct flared edges. Each one has a word or phrase on it.
"Price's"
"Patent"
"Nov. 2"
The last one is undecipherable
The back of the piece has two attachment devices and a stud.

Any ideas??? Thanks

Keeping my eye on this one. I'll bet someone can help ID it. It lost looks like a keyhole,to me or a lock plate of some type.

You need something in the pic so we can tell the size of the object.

The piece is 2.5'' high and 2.5'' in width. I hope these measurements will help.

Beautiful find! And, great work and help on the ID. I'll bet there's not too many of those around. Makes me wonder who was using it, what they were carrying with it, and whether it was used on the battlefield...

I bet it belonged to an officer. I got permission to hunt a site where an Indiana regiment camped during the campaign for Vicksburg. Got lucky and found a bunch of stuff. I'm sure this camp had never been hit before. Now that this relic has been identified it makes me wonder...
