Being 2 1/2" I would rule out lightning rod :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

Can you post some pics different views?

Any info on where you found it and other items found with it might help.

Is the tip melted or cast that way?

looks like a knife belt buckle

Here's a wild guess...

It's a tooth from a horse grooming rake.

Tip does kind of have a melted look to it.

When in doubt just say "furniture hardware" or "horse tack." :D

Furniture Hardware or Horse Tack.

I would agree, if it were anything important, someone would have recognized it. It is cast in that shape.
Thanks all, Steve

That doesn't make it less interesting and without knowing what it is we don't know if it's important  Is there a small hook at the end of the tip?

Added: I see now that hook is in your thread title. Maybe some kind of machine crochet needle?

Not true. Would like to see more pics, side, bottom... something for size reference to better visualize.

Is it 3-sided?

I have no idea what this item is, but someone on TNET may be able to tell me. I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks, Steve
Any other clues you could give us? Maybe the type of area that it was found in for starters. I don't believe it has been melted. It looks whole and intact. I agree with BigC about some better/more photos. That scanner isn't doing any justice.

Im not telling you what to do, but I need a side view to tell how much of a hook this has.

Some more pics could be the key to solve this one

Maybe a roof spike, piece of old anthenna? Hey, now I'm back to lightning rod

Sorry guys, I posted this for a computer-challenged friend. I'll try to find out more from him and let you all know. Now that it was mentioned, it does remind me of something to do with lightning rods. Part of a loom, sounds feasible as well.
