Brant's Pulmonary BalsamBrant'sAlbion, MichJ W Brant Co1 (?)

The J W Brant Company was started in 1848 by Dr J. W. Brant. He marketed a few different cure alls, including this one. This one was supposed to cure all kinds of ailments of the lungs as well as purifying the blood. It was advertised heavily. Here is an early ad from 1850 (click to enlarge):

Whether that was actually their factory or not, I don't know. But I do know the company was sold and moved to Albion, Michigan in 1889, where it remained in operation for 50 years in this building (sorry, this one only has a thumbnail).

And here it is on an early insurance map of the town (click to enlarge this one):

It was owned by the mayor of Albion in the 1890s, and then by an insurance man who operated it until WWII, when it was sold to Michigan state Senator Warren Hooper. After Hooper was killed by the Purple Gang in 1945 to prevent him testifying in a gambling case, his widow closed the factory and sold the remaining inventory out of her home.

I don't know if it did any good for lung issues, but hopefully it beat a good butt whoopin'.

Here is the before and after, just soap and water and brushes. I might try some vinegar on it later.

WOW.... and now buildings are being erected in honor of your new crown...! Ok, let's move on.

You got this process down Robert it seems. Are you using one good database or do you have to shop around for all this information. But again the format is great guy. Good job... again..!

Nope, no database. I just have decent luck with search engines and guessing keywords. Usually. Trial and error.
