Hello all, just registered and thought I’d introduce myself.

I retired almost two years ago to the day and have always been interested in gold panning/detecting but never have had the opportunity. Don’t know a thing about it other than what I’ve been watching on YouTube and reading on various sites. I finally pulled the trigger yesterday on a Gold Monster 1000 and some panning/digging tools.

Hoping to learn some in’s and out’s from you folks here. I live in Las Cruces, NM. I moved down here with my wife from the UP of Michigan and the western mountains of Maine prior to that. I like the desert but miss the fly fishing. Hoping some gold hunting will be as enjoyable as fly fishing for me.

Thanks to all,

George

Welcome G, let us know how you're doing after you get out a little with the new set up. Have fun! You'll be surprised at two things right off the bat...how quickly you'll catch on and how addictive this is once you find some cool stuff. Even when I find a pouch full of crap it's still a better day than most. Ask questions and read up-

Welcome!

Welcome to TNet, George! :hello:

Welcome from the NE corner of New Mexico! Never have done any gold mining in the state but you are in a good area for everything outdoors! I have heard of small gold deposits in the burro mountains they are not far from you.

Also I make a couple trips a year to the four corners to fish the San Juan River. Its at the opposite end of the state for you but is definitely worth the trip! The quality waters area below Navajo Reservoir is world famous for trout fishing.

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Forum:New Mexico for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Another Welcome to T Net from Michigan, George. As PaleIO mentioned, the San Juan is a legendary trout stream. Might be others there too. Should be some lakes you can fish in also.

Welcome to the forum! :occasion14:
