It almost looks like some sort of friendship bracelet :dontknow: The good thing is that it is silver :icon_thumleft: I would search that area again and see if you can find the rest of it, that only looks to be a small segment of the original piece.

I think the item is a good bit newer than the CW...

But it is a very cool find.

It looks like a sentimental or memorial bracelet. They were often a public display of mourning. It very well could be from the Civil War era.

I politely disagree. The National Gold and Silver Marking Act was enacted in 1906. I don't know how early a piece might be marked "Sterling"--especially an item that is not silver tableware or vessels.

I will look later on for a match for the bracelet online...

Buckles,

I respectfully accept your polite disagreement ;D

I only post on things I know a little about, and I happen to know a little about jewelry. Thus I made an educated guess on this piece. The most accurate definition of a hallmark is a mark or marks that are impressed on jewelry which indicate fineness or purity of the item. While "fineness stamps" have been required in the U.S. since 1906, hallmarks were put on silver jewelry since the early 19th century (coin, or standard, or sterling). So in light of that it is possible for this to be a Civil War era piece.

What does it say on the left piece bottom pic under the scratches?

Looks like the word "STERLING" upside down. In my experience, personal items like this--if they are from the mid-19th c.--were made crudely out of coin silver--rather than made and stamped like this one is.

Maybe it can be figured out. Shame there is no maker's name or hallmark.

The section on the left looks upside down. Both the first section and the third have the same last initial. That's just my observation.
