So far, I have only one bank that will order me halves. They will order as many as needed, but at a $5 charge per box. What rates are you guys paying (those who do). I have asked at many banks and the Vault Managers all tell me that they have to charge as they get charged. Their stories seem consistent from bank to bank. I am still searching for the banks that don't charge. Any guidance?

my bank will order me as many half dollar boxes as I request (FOR NO FEE) as long as I purchase all I order and do not return them. (I always pick them up the same day of delivery)

I had my B of A branch tell me i would have to pay $5 bucks a box ,, when i first started. I told them fine. The capitol one said the same thing. I get a box or two every week , for almost a year now and have never been charge a fee. I do keep a decent balance in each account. I told both i think they should be able to get me my boxes , being they are useing my money to make money. I guess it worked.I always pick up the coins on the same day they come in. I also bring bagels and doughnuts on a regular basis .Good luck and HH.

I can order all I want for free from BOA, WF, or US bank, but their coin is barren out here.

I tried paying $10.00 per box from a different bank, but lost big time on that.

So now I am left to other choices.

Paying fees is a losing game.

PD.

At a bank which has had good results for those I know told me they would charge me a fee of $5 a box. I figured it would be worth it, since the results would be great. They haven;t charged me a fee yet... Hopefully i dont jinx myself.

I don't order a ton of boxes, usually just a few boxes of nickels a week, but my bank hasn't even mentioned fees yet. It seems to be a mix of luck and how much you order.

My first box from BoA was free.
I asked to order a 2nd box. They said there was a fee of $35.
Been picking up loose halves / CWRs since.

Ack :-\

Thanks for all of the replies. It seems that all of the banks you guys get for free aren't anywhere near me! I'm still on the hunt tho!

Don't pay fees for boxes, it cuts too much into your profits. For example, a fee of $5 a box means that you have to find a 40%er in every box just to break even. Either find a bank that doesn't charge for halves or just simply go for CWRs, bags and teller trays. After all, the chance of finding a true dream box is rather slim. Yes, boxes are good for "steady silver", or at least they used to be, but you aren't going to find a dream find. For example, the collection dump of $10 face in wheats I picked up a week or two ago I would have never found even going through 10+ boxes of pennies. 29 solid rolls of walkers don't happen in a box, but if you train your tellers well, you can fairly easily get it through CWRs. If you can get bags, I'd go for bags every time. Yes, you can get shorted, but I've found I've gotten shorted a lot less times than I have been long.

Well, their seems to be a bit of inconsistency between branches.

I was able to get boxes ordered at other branches of the same bank without and problem.

Also, when I picked up the box at the $3/box branch, they didn't even make mention of the charge. I am thinking that the charge must be a bluff.

The bank wants to make a couple bucks... That's all.. Do you blame them? They know we want them and Most of us will pay for them..

I order from a number of different places but am willing to pay a fee at a certain bank because they have the rarer of the two services in my area.

As far as the banks we have ordered from, there have been no fees charged. Does anyone know if the banks that don't charge a fee have to absorb the fee? My main bank for ordering would NOT order for me until recently when we took out a very nice Equity line and the manager helping us with the account politely told the vault teller to order me coins when I asked for them. Perhaps being nice because we just did $75k business with them? ???

I primarily buy from US Banks, and I've had a few of them tell me there is a .15 fee per roll when they have to order in coin they don't normally stock, or have to order in coin above their normal order. I've called BS on it, but they produced a fee booklet that listed the fee for non-business customers. I've had other branches tell me the same fee applies when you dump as well... so I would lose on both ends.
However, I've made friends with vault tellers at some branches, and they don't charge me the fee at all. I just had to give up a silver quarter in the teller tray.
