What state? That looks like a beautiful man made stone bowl. Looks to be fossil inclusions in it but no way that is a geo fact. Very nice find. I am sure it was a very important item. Kinda like your grandmothers limoge china. Do you find artifacts in association with this item? Thank you for sharing your find.

Christan County Southwest Missouri. I have been hunting this 8 mile stretch for sometime with no particular discretion.I believe I have many possible campsites just based on the terrain.I also pulled up a possible scraper and will post it.Nothing real spectacular but it was in a newly turned field just above the creek where the other piece was found.

What a fantastic find. I'd be on a long time high if I had found that.

Its really a great vessel. Very rare. I wish Joushua or some of the experts in that area of artifact types would chime in. I have seen steatite and stone bowls but none as fine as that one.

Sorry ,.. to say this , but to me it looks like it's maybe ,... stoneware / glazed pottery ,.. old & local made :dontknow:,. IMO , nice old piece anyway ...Joel

Brought this up to our local University and left it with their Archeology Department today. There interest was needless to say quite high.
They were going to study the piece and get back to me later in the week unless they ship it to another understudy very familiar with these pieces...

Who has to thumbs and like to help out the newer collectors???? :toothy1:...This guy!...
Way to go keep it my friend! good luck and keep lookin down!

Please be so kind to post their proffesional evaluation of the bowl
Thanks

Nice find there. If that turns out to be "other than stoneware", then it should be a banner find. I just hope you get it back. Down here, TARL is not very good at returning things to the few folks that I know who sent in items.
(One was part of what turned out to be a Spanish helmet found in the Sulphur River)

Feel Good about Getting It Back As I have A Great Relationship With The University As My Company Donates Large Sums Of Money For The Research Department.
But That Being Said We Have A Terrific Trust In That Relationship....."Money The Root Of All That Is Good"..... "Gordon Gecko"

This would make me nervous. Did you get a receipt? If not, it might come up MIA. I personally would not have let it leave where you took it. If it's authentic, you might have a hard time getting it back.

My Daughter called me this morning from the University.I am meeting the Archeology Staff to find out about the preliminary findings. As I said earlier it is nice to have people you trust. She was excited about the findings but wanted to have the Team present their thoughts. She did say one thing which I will keep open for now, that they are going to ask my permission to view the site since I own the property. My assumption is they obviously want to start a dig site with my Daughter being asked to join as part of the team.
With my property covering approximately 3800 acres I have discussed with my lawyer the legal angles I am entering with that permission. Will post the findings as soon as I hear from the staff......................
