Found this knife with some CW bullets. Posted it on what is it forum and it was ID as a possible Bowie knife. It was about 6" deep at a know CW site. The knife has a double edge blade and seems to be hand forged. Thought I would post it here and see if I could get any more info. Thanks for looking. knife 2.jpgknife 3.jpg

Don't know anything about it, other than MANY CS soldiers carried personal bowies. An absolutely FANTASTIC find if period, and it sure looks it . . .

Thanks. This was found near a known CS camp in western VA. This location seen CS @ US troops both. I feel sure it is period because of the bullets and two union buttons that was found there. This is a new site on private land that we just got permission for and haven't put much time in, but we will definitely be back. Thanks HH

Probably period but it looks to be a dirk/dagger in my humble opinion. A bowie is a humpbacked blade and fairly large.Dirks saw action in the civil war and the Rev war.

I think you are on to something Tnmountains, here is an example of a civil war boot dagger. Look at pic of my knife. It is flat on one side. Thanks for your help!!!BOOT DAGGER.jpgBOOT DAGGER 1.jpg

You are most welcome. I just knew it was not a bowie knife. A good close quarter weapon. Very cool find. It sure beats the bullets I dug yesterday
