Hello All,

I recently scored a BH discovery 2200 for 50 bucks online, I checked out a few reviews and seems to be a pretty good MD, but then again I'm just a beginner with zero knowledge of MD's. I was wondering if this is a good beginner MD? and was it worth 50 bucks, I originally had a budget of 300$ ans was looking into purchasing a Ace 250 or 350 but came across this buy and went through with it, Eventually I will get a new MD but wanted to try this one before going through with a new purchase. What do you guys think? was a it good buy or did I get burned for 50$? I will hunting, beaches, dried river beds, parks and old lots here in southern California. Input from everyone is welcomed.

I have one haven't had it long but it air tests very good and seems deep I have snow right now here in high traffic area packed down 8" and my detector picks up stuff under the grass my depth meter is 9" max. I'm not sure how it will be for salt beach as there is no ground balance adjustment

I used one as my primary detector for about six years. You can find a lot of coins with it--I'm in your same area and liked the machine a lot. Depth is reasonable and the target ID is quite accurate. The lack of a pinpoint mode (you have to go up to the 3300 to get that) wasn't much of hindrance at all. It's light weight and fairly easy on the batteries. Doesn't like the black sand at the beach, but what VLF unit does? I mostly used rechargeables in it which are slightly longer than alkaline 9Vs. Over time, the pressure of the rechargeables bent the battery contacts to the point where regular alkalines wouldn't make contact. I had to use little shims to push the regular alkalines into contact, but eventually got in there with a needle-nose pliers and pulled the contacts back up to where the alkalines would fit properly.

One weak point is that the tab on the battery door is liable to breakage. Mine did, and a while back I saw a 2200 that also had a broken door for sale online. Easily replaced through Radio Shack parts though.

I'm saving mine for the grandkids.
