So after years of having coins pile up I pulled the trigger on a tumbler and started cleaning some of these cruddy coins..
These 2 different pictures are 2 before and 1 after wheats that I couldn't really see anything on to begin with....
What do you think ?

After.. all of them are identifiable as wheats so I might roll them and see what someone would give me for them at auction..

What did you use to clean them? I use small gravel, lemon juice, and salt mostly but sometimes use water and mr clean or dawn dish detergent.

It looks like you used vinegar.

Funny that.. I bought some jars of black powdery stuff, but its awful because it gets all over everything... Soo I have a box of BBs for a pellet gun, I've had for years... So I just started using 100 BBs and water with hand soap...
Seems to be working ok... especially for basic coin cleaning..

No vinegar ...

how long did you tumble them? I tumble between 1 to 2 hours and always do penny's and other coppers in a separate batch than the other coins. I normally only tumble clad.

I'm tumbling the really crappy stuff including wheats, but I might try doing the pennies separately, my tumbler has a timer so whatever the max timer is, 45 or 60 minutes ?
I don't do anything that is good silver or anything that is in good condition, yeah I'm with you. anything old would lose all value if tumbled ...

I used to use dawn dish soap and the aquarium base gravel. It always did a fairly good clean up and was not to costly
