papers, lots of papers, legal docs etc and a windows vista home premium with service pack disc- open but great condition with key intact, paid $3 for the safe, it was a sentry with the rolling lock combo, could have got new combo but would have had to get notriety and send $25, I went the easy way and used a hammer and busted the front over and over til it opened, was my first safe, felt great when I seen something in there, too bad there was no money gold or coins lol but the dvd rom seems to be getting around $50 on ebay :)

I always wondered if it would be worth trying to contact the people and see if they wanted the documents back....for a nominal fee :) of course! You see all these people who buy storage lockers, I wonder if anyone has tried that before.

I shred them, I have tried before and heard way too many stories of trying to find them and getting ahold of them and then 99% of the time they are mad or upset you even bothered, I just shred it and figure its better than it sitting somewhere else..

Depending on what state you buy the storage in anything that ID the people is supposed to be turned over to the people running the storage building. Not all states all of them can be differant.

While laws might vary state to state, most will require you return legal documents from a storage auction, or at least attempt to do so.

Well it wasn't a storage auction, it was a public auction and they had no disclaimer, I did win a storage auction before and the owner told me legally that I was not obliged to turn any papers over it was just for good gesture.

I was gonna say that the software should sell pretty well, but you already mentioned it. Kind of a moot point but as for the laws pertaining to returning personal papers, documents, photos etc., the protocol varies from state to state.

Is the Vista disc a retail or oem version? You may need to include a piece of computer hardware if it is OEM.

Listed it on the bay, already at $22.19 with 6 days left :) not bad for a $3 safe.
