I was pushing dirt with a dozer today and broke into an old deepmine. I went in and found two old bottles one has no markings the other is DR D. JAYNE'S CARMINATIVE BALSAM PHILADA PA. Does anyone know what the balsam bottle is worth.

Yes I was thinking its probably 1860s bottle. had no idea on value though ,thanks. The hole is a deepmine ,coalmine, I was about 80 feet back in it. there are several mines through that area I will be uncovering more of them. I found a bottle identical to the one with no markings only it was a quart instead of a pint in another deepmine in cadiz ohio about 15 years ago. makes me think they might have contained something used in the mines.Gobpile said:This looks like a cistern? You have a bottle from the 1860's to the 1880's,not worth a lot maybe 10 to 20 dollars. You should dig this out a little bit and see what else is there its a good era to find a rare bottle?

No its not safe. The only thing that keeps it from caving in is the rock above the coal seam . The same as it was when they mined it over 100 years ago.Breezie said:author=taz42o link=topic=343833.msg2475233#msg2475233

Is that safe? What keeps it from caving inward? I know nothing about going in mines, so enlighten me. Nice finds, Breezie
