Hi relic hunter. that looks like nothing I have ever seen ,,,lol
but I got to ask , have you tried to open a bottle yet ? it looks like it would work , even though its kind of small looking.

Hello relic,

It might, indeed, work as one, but I do not think that is it's original purpose. I think we need an audio / visual of you popping the top on a cool one... 8-)

It kind of looks like the old can openers the army gave us with our field rations.

It looks like it would be backwards for opening a bottle cap, leverage is the wrong way.

Thanks for All of you taking time to post.
It would be backwards for bottle opening or you would have to push down and not pull up.
I have not tried to open one with it either.
I think its too thick to be an opener for rations, its a bit thicker than a key on the hook end
and at the back end it flairs to about the thickness of 4 keys..
I had a hole in it and I needed a new key fob that's why I put it on my key chain.
Thanks again for taking time to post

I could have dreamt this up, but didn't some of the breweries give bottle openers or "church keys" with 6 pack purchases?

Seems that I heard once that they did that to encourage people to buy bottled beer for carry out...but again, I could have dreamt that up. I've been known to do that on occasion.

I'm having trouble picturing the "flairs to about the thickness of 4 keys" part. Can you post another pic? My first thought was a padlock key. They've made some funky looking keys over the years... My second thought was a cartiridge extractor from some kind of old carbine. But I'm not the gun expert here. Someone else will have to weigh in on that.

Post a couple more pics and we'll research some more.

Thanks for taking time to read the posts. Here are 3 more photos.
I found it in an area where I think was an old barn or work shop. I've found with in feet of this. Old plow parts, a planter chain, a gofer plow, half a horseshoe with nails still in, a lid to an old cast iron cook pot, an old pair of scissors, and a 40's penny , about a foot down I run into blacken gravel like some one burned stuff here.

Thanks again
Danny.

Hmmm... Not at all what I had in my head. Thx for the additional pics.

Not a key. Pretty sure not a cartidge extractor. Not a bottle opener.

Brass, right? No apparent signs of wear... Maybe an internal part of a cabinet latch? :dontknow:

That was my thought.....part of a latch

Hey Guys
Its not brass, but its not magnetic either.
I first thought it was some kind of a latch myself
but My buddy who got me into metal detecting is sure its some kind
of bottle opener.

I still think its some kind of a latch. esp in context of all the other
relics I found with this. I found no bottle caps yet. But ive found
all sorts of other trash there..

Thanks again for taking time to read and post
