It was found in a civil war camp. I took it the civil war show here in Dalton today, but no one said they recognized it.

Hey joey,

Interesting find. Will'ya wait for daylight and rephoto in macro mode, please. I can't see "the barn" for beans, now. Sometimes etching can be brought out with a light coating of dirt.

Is it milk glass, then? What metal? What's the diameter? Any threading? What's the other side look like?

Figured it was a coin when I dug it. Its brass, with no threading. It appears to have some gold quilting on the inside. It's not milk glass it's transparent. I will take some better photos later today. Thanks, for replying. Joey

Let me start off by saying, I don't know what this is, but I have an idea to what 'family' it belongs. It reminds me of a miniature version of a Magic Lantern slide. The Magic Lantern was an early projector that projected picturesque scenery of various people, places, and things on a wall using glass slides. Maybe your find is similar, just in a smaller version. . . .sort of the antique version of the View-Master or a version of a teleidoscope.[h=1][/h]
Interesting find :)
