Hit the farm today, the hits were few, the total tally is 17 zincolns, 2 wheaties, 1 rotten Indian head and one really cool bottle in pristine condition. However, the coolest find was a mini cast metal mermaid.

Does anybody know anything about something like this?

Hello Mucky,

Is that bottle intact? I'm squinting like crazy. Am I reading that as, "Galin's Bottling Works, Highland Falls?"

It looks like a deco soda from out here in the cheap seats.

Made by Reed Glass Co, Rochester: "R in a triangle……..Reed Glass Company, Rochester, New York (c.1927-1956). The 1927-1956 date range is given by Julian Toulouse in Bottle Makers and their Marks (1971). However, I received a report from Taylor McBurney who confirms this mark on an older, square handmade bottle (prob. circa 1890-1915) so, assuming Reed was the maker of that bottle, they apparently used the “R in a triangle” much earlier than stated by Toulouse. See “Reed”, Rochester Glass Works.

Reed……………….F.E.Reed Glass Company (or Reed Glass Company), Rochester, New York (c.1899-1956). See Rochester Glass Works." GLASS MANUFACTURERS' MARKS ON BOTTLES & OTHER GLASSWARE~PAGE THREE

Is it a machined crown cap?

I'm busy finding bupkis on "Galin's"…

Some nice finds! Congrats!

Hi Mucky, always nice to find those bottles local to us!! What's the cute little mermaid made from?? Where are you from, I lived for years in north Rockland but now am down by the TZ.

Hey, I think the mermaid is pewter but I can't tell. I liver around the Garnerville/Stony point area. Although I am not fond of new York this area kicks a-- as far as swinging and digging.

Shhhh! Been hunting Rockland for over 40 years, with times off here and there. I lived next to Krucker's in Pomona for about forty years, yeah it's getting crowded around here, Valley Cottage where I am now is nowhere as quiet as Pomona/Stony Point.

Yay or nay, have you ever hlold the urge to md SP Battlefield since you pretty Much grew up in the area..lol

Nah, never. (LOL) MY mother taught school in Tomkins Cove back in the late 50s and one day a kid brought in a human skull for show and tell he found while hunting crayfish in the little stream into the swamp at the base of the hill going up to the STB. I hunted for round balls there before they put those houses down at the bottom of the road as a kid, but never found one although another kid did. This was eyeball hunting in the stream. I used to pick around with a stick at the river's edge by the lighthouse too but never found anything. They are much tighter on security now, the old museum was broken into in the early 70s and the bronze cannons that marked all the redoubts were removed by the state never to return, and a lot of stuff from the original museum never made it to the new one. We used to fish for striped bass down by the lighthouse, I don't know if it is still allowed.

Hard for my older eyes since I can't enlarge the photo. Looks like Hudson marsh, and it would either have to be south of Piermont or around Iona Island. If it's looking across the river it's by Doodletown/Iona, if it's looking upriver at the Hook it's Piermont.

Doodletown/Iona...
