Boring finds…

I hit a small park and while detecting, a local decided to tag along behind me. Undeterred by my visible headset, he kept talking. He was just old and bored. So I took off the headset and chatted. He then stopped talking altogether but continued to follow along.

I found a penny because I wasn’t getting any hits and decided to give it a go on anything and the last find was the best…not because of what it was but because of the 20 minutes of silence broken by Mr Local…it was a white metal piece from a parking meter…

“Well that’s f’ing useless, where’s the rest of it! That’s what we’re looking for!”

Count yourself fortunate. Some people are confined to a chair or a bed and can't do anything. Every find can't be a winner. Myself, I just don't set my expectations too high anymore...and if I get something good, I'm all the more happy for it. In terms of your parking meter find...I love finding anything with writing on it...like nameplates, tags or whatever. As for the 'old tag-along'...maybe that's where the treasure was for you that day...what was their life like...what did they endure or see? Once they're gone...if no one talks to them and remembers, their stories will be gone with them. You never know, maybe their spouse had passed away, family moved away or whatever. You may have been their help for that moment. But I know, you can tell when people are being nosey or snoopy...paranoid, that happens. I hit a small town with a friend one time and not five minutes in these people in trucks were circling the park like vultures glaring at us the whole time. Lol...I was like, 'really???' I mean, we weren't excavating or anything. We just left.

Agreed!

I’m thankful to get out. I told the local that I would make it a regular occurrence to stop at this park since I found out that once a month, they have a community get together. I told him that I would come down after the get together and go over the volleyball sand pit, and other areas. He’s always around, so I know he’ll show up and follow. Which is totally cool.

And anytime, I find something, I’m pleased. Finding this part of the parking meter and hearing that comment, I laughed so hard. He was really hoping that we found something significant! I said to him, Yep. Parking meter would be great. Could you imagine all the quarters and dimes and the possibility of silver coins and dimes? I told him if we located it, I go halvsies with him. He was cool! I was a nurse for 30 years so I can appreciate older people who are looking for someone to talk with or lpn something to pass their day.

I’ve left a couple locations as well when locals have shown up. Thank God it’s only been twice in all my time. But hearing the line, “ if you find a ring, my fiancé lost her ring here.” is enough for me to leave. The other time, we found an intact, 9 mm bullet, an empty 9 mm casing and we had a very curious truck observing us as we worked the area. We quit because we really don’t wanna find anything else that particular time with that particular observer. Lol.
