Hello All!! Long time lurker - first Post!! I don't own a metal detector yet, but am making plans:) My sister has one and we have found a total of about 25 nails, many pulltabs, an old key and a snapple bottle lid. Nothing exciting, but we keep trying.

Everyday I enjoy seeing all the finds so I had to share this one!

I am moving in with my fiance and have been cleaning up my house to get ready to sell. I cleared off a bookshelf earlier. It's one of those bookshelves where you can take the shelves out and adjust the height. So I clear off all the shelves and they are all empty and ready to come out. I took the top shelf out and heard a loud "Clank!!" I look down and on the next shelf is this old quarter!! I have no idea where it came from! Anyway - my first coin find!!

 A seateds a seated no matter how you come across it.

1876 "seated" quarter --having no mint mark on the rear --means its a philadelphia mint issued coin

OMG, Need help ???

We can Make a few Test holes In the walls Patching And Painting Is No Problem!!! I could crawl around your Attic, A little and Look around HH Chug

Check around the shelf area Especially above the area it was found!!! I have tools and Willing to travel If its OK with red!!!! :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

As I said - long time lurker - so Chug and Red would be welcome!

I think it must have been wedged in between the shelf and the frame? I got these shelves from a friend a few years ago. I really have no idea how this coin got there.

Thanks for the info on the Philadelphia mint. Cool! My knowledge on coins is very limited. Thanks!!!

This sure made four hours of moving worthwhile - made me smile:)

It took me almost 8 yrs to find that same coin this year 1876. But the coins leading up to that find, priceless . Congrats and welcome to a wonderful hobby.Rob :coffee2:

could be any mint..the place where the mint mark goes is so completely worn that you cant tell.....wish my book cases had seated coins hiding in them!!!!! congrats on a nice find.....

Sweet find! This reminds me of cleanup after my grandma passed away in 1976. Was cleaning some clothing, etc out of her chest slash drawers and underneath the paper I found a shiny liberty V nickel !

Found the same coin at a local park last year. I looked up some history for that date. Just one of the thing that I do when I find an older coin. June 25-26 1876 Custers Last Stand Battle of the Little Big Horn. A little something to put your coin in historical perspective. Great find!! HHHH
