My guess is book latch, but any ideas on time period?

are you showing us 2 or three separate items?
can you just show us the 1 item your trying to ID ?
actual size?
material?
are you trying to ID a set of pcs?
if so, were they found in the same hole?
do they fit together?

Country, state, or region of discovery would help too. Those are some fine pieces of brass! Sub 8-)

There are only 3 items on is showed on it's side. And I believe he is asking if all three items would make up into one book latch.IMO

Does the hinge hasp connect to the pentagon, does it go into the hole? If so I think those two are some kind of clasp. The other part I don't see how that could work unless parts are missing.

The OP is overseas I believe he has another post from Europe so different time zones it might be awhile before we hear back.

Sorry guys. I'm in the military and sometimes my internet is hit or miss. I found these in Germany. The state of Bavaria to be exact. The thing I'm trying to id is the two people "holding" one another. It is about 2.5 inches long. Not too sure on material. The other piece is def a book latch. Was trying to see if the piece was a book latch or trunk latch of some sort

Item 1 is Saint Christopher holding the Christ Child on his shoulder.

I believe it's a man and woman. Or Christ child was very tall. Lol. If you look to the left you can see the legs of the woman. She is posed with one leg kicked back. I just can't nail down what type of latch or time period.

I'm pretty conident it is St. Christopher. His feet are wide to stable himself as he crosses a raging stream with the Christ Child on his shoulder. Note the staff and the halo around the child's head.

What I can't figure is what is used for? As the Patron Saint f travellrs I'd expect to find him on horse furniture or carriage brass or maybe even a travel trunk latch. The piece looks too heavy to be a book latch.

Do the two pieces got together?

No. They are separate. I was trying to use them for size reference

Were these all found together? If so I am thinking it could have been a handle on a trunk that a Priest carried his items in for home visits? The book latch would have been on his bible?:icon_scratch:

The two were found within 50 ft of each other. A plow could have separated them. Now you say that it could be items carried together.

I've never had so many scratch my head moments until I arrived in Germany. I find so much when I go out here. I'm headed to a roman location Sunday, we have all historic maps and updated maps so we don't disturb monument protected areas. I will be leaving in October to come back to the states. Hopefully I will get stationed near the coast for some pirate hunting.

I don't know if they are part of the same item. I simply want to know if you tried to fit the stem of one item into the hole of the other.

May we see a picture of the back of the items?

Thanks for your patience.

Let me give you guys the details. I'm sorry if I'm not giving all the info on material but I'm not too keen on anything past 1800's. I detected a field in Bavaria with a German friend on his permission. The field was fairly small, but in viewing distance of church. These three items were in my "path". No more than 60ft span. Don't know if they match. But I have better pics now so here they are.
