Well, any time you suspect human remains, you should notify the police. If you believe it ancient burial, then the park ranger. You have a civic duty to report it. Also if human, it is someone's family member, and they me looking for them. As a rule I do not disturb and ceremonial or burial pits when out hunting. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks y'all.I found this while fishing. It was lying in the water and it seems to be almost petrified.I'm pretty sure its fairly old.I would toss it back but I;m now hundreds of miles away in NY.If it is human I would like to see it buried somewhere as it should be ...which is what I will probably do....if it's human.

Hey I have found plenty of bones just like this from the Rappahannock River area along Fredericksburg/Stafford! I think they are just animal bones however there are many Indian burial grounds that are unmarked along the Rappahannock River (100s of Indians buried up and down the river) so you never know I normally just leave the bones where they are they cant bring value and it is illegal too have if it is Indian, most Indian bones are deep in the ground and if you found this on top of the ground chances are it is not Indian but it could be human bone from a different time period like 20th century so you never know (just look how many bodies they are finding in Fredericksburg/Stafford these days) Now you can pick up Arrowheads all day long with no problem!

Definitely not human. What you have is obviously the proximal half of a tibia from some animal. A human tibia has a much wider plateau. I suppose that a human tibia, much worn by water motion might possibly resemble that, but cant say for sure. I've seen thousands of living human tibias, but never a worn dead one.
