As a painting contractor I rarely get to bid anything interesting. I just read an article on one of these forums about the Chinese influence on California during the gold rush. Then the next day, I get a call from a company that I do a lot of work for to meet them at this temple in marysville, ca. to bid a job. It is the Bok kia temple to the water gods. Very interesting! Kind of scary, tho. Everything is very old, one of a kind, and very fragile. The supervisor showed me around and told me of all the strange finds that they uncovered while trying to preserve the building. It has been neglected for long time. When he was opening up old wall sections, he found many strange and odd things. The one that I found most interesting was the packets of opium and the many pipes stashed in the nooks all over the building. These carved art, alter pieces are priceless. They are everywhere! Big 10 ft. sections that are incredible. Here are some pictures.
