http://:thumbsup: Hello friends, Thankyou for all the replys, in fact I have found out that the staple looking item was in fact used by The various soldiers from The Boer War, they used it to keep their ground sheets down into the ground, my friend Willem who collects Boer War items (he has a vast collection) has also found many of these staples, I have some nice pic's to post, but they are of a large format will see if I can resize them smaller.

We have been up to that area a few times already near Sterkstroom and have found a few things, like 303 doppies, live bullets, shrapnel from cannon, tent pegs, and various other smaller items.

This first photo shows what the people looked like, they were in fact only young men in soldiers uniforms.

The spade was found behind a telecommuication outpost in the ground which was used during The Boerwar, it is a very old spade indeed, I have not washed it, this is how it came out of the ground, the screw bolt on the right was used to keep railway lines down it is dated 1968, the steel peg was used for their tents, it was hand crafted by a Blacksmith in a forge, The bayenot is from a 303 rifle dated 1907.

Wow Africa!! Watch out for the Hippos, I heard they are mean. ;D

Going up there tomorrow, only thing I have to be careful of is the time, it gets dark early now due to winter then of course my wife, she gets wild when I come home late, I think she does not believe mje where I have been, this is why I take her along as well.

Hello Africa, spent a week at middleberg near joberg in the 90s,enjoyed the country and Castle beer but the bilton what's that all about.HH Robert

Fantastic finds - its great to see the sangars are still standing.

And Biltong - beats boring old jerky any day  . There's a few companies here in Australia that also do biltong, stokkies and droëwors. In fact just thinking about made me log on and order a kilo ;D

Biltong, now that is a thing, to all The Americans they call it Jerky, but to us it is fantastic delicious stuff to eat, here in Queenstown I buy it from a place that makes real excellent stuff, but they cut it up into small slices, so you do not have to cut it with your pocket knife while you are out hunting with the detector.

I call them spicy bites, they also make real strong spicy bites but I do not like them, they make you drink more and I dio not think drinking, eating biltong and using my Minelab all at the same time is not possible :stop:

Thus I normally eat them in the small slice form instead, this morning it is very overcast, slight drizzle and cold at about 9 degrees celcius.
Still thinking about going out, the weather forcast did say something about snow on the mountains.

Thank's for the comments, yes South Africa is a beautiful place to live in, however I recon that no matter where you live you will also have crime, thousands of people have left for greener pastures, elsewhere ...............

Great bunch of historic finds! Your weather sounds good to me - 100 F (38 C) here yesterday, more of the same today. Don't know much about those cartridges, but it's neat that they were found still in the clip.

Yes had the chance to live in South Africa (was offered a job at Columbus steelworks in the mid 90s). We spent a week looking around the area, and decided against it. Crime or the fear of it seemed to rule most peoples lives, bars on all the windows !.Still a beautiful country though. Regards Robert

The smaller bullets on the stripper clip are probably for a Broomhandle Mauser pistol. They are 7.62X25 caliber. Cool stuff.
