hmmmm to bad it wasn't made a few years earlier...could have been off the Titantic lifeboats davits.....or the Britannia also had welin davits ....which sunk in November of 1916....don't know if these davits were made by this welin company or the one in Switzerland

Yup- that certainly appears to be from a lifeboat! I don't think it would be from a lifeboat davit, but rather from the lifeboat itself.

Fascinating find! It sort of makes you wonder what happened to that lifeboat- was it from a ship sunk during WW1 or WW2? Very interesting!

Maybe some further research could fill in some more of the mystery...
