Try searching "spode mandarin pattern". Possibly from the late 19th C.

OK I learned something today. Blue Willow is the most popular china pattern ever produced. Who knew? Not me, that's for certain.

I looked at a few maker's marks for china but saw nothing close.

Thanks dcmatt. I've been looking at makers marks and backstamps for hours and can't seem to match anything up. You're right, there are so many!

Thank goodness you picked it up - imagine it would leave a mark if stepped on skateandcreate!

Vpnavy, you should see the amount of glass that washes up/is laying around down there. This is what it looked like when we first moved in.

Hey skateandcreate,

It doesn't get much more "partial" than that. 8-)

The degree of difficulty in determining the maker from this small shard is extreme.

"The willow pattern has been made by hundreds of companies in dozens of countries, and in colors from the most-seen blue, to red, green, gold, yellow, purple, black, brown, multicolored and the list goes on with combinations.

Did you know the willow pattern has earned a rather unique distinction? Because it has been in existence for more than 200 years, it is the china pattern with the longest continual production in history...

By 1830, there were about 200 makers of underglaze blue willow in England. Toward the end of the 19th century, other countries followed suit, and by 1905 the Buffalo Pottery in the USA began making standard willow pattern using the transfer printing method..." International Willow Collectors

Having said that, you may wish to contact the specialist group: International Willow Collectors to see if they might recognize that corner of a marking.

Here's several thousand British marks you might pour over: Pottery & Porcelain Marks - Great Britain - Pg. 3 of 38

"Two birds flying high,
A Chinese vessel, sailing by.
A bridge with three men, sometimes four,
A willow tree, hanging o'er.
A Chinese temple, there it stands,
Built upon the river sands.
An apple tree, with apples on,
A crooked fence to end my song. " Antique Blue Willow

Agree that it was a long shot. I've been looking at those marks on old and sold all day and nothing is close. At least I found a new research site and learned a little more about pottery. Who knows, maybe i'll find another piece of the puzzle next low tide. Thanks guys!
