I would love to know the story of how and when that got there

These coins are common...
You can buy them for pennies on a dollar... by the barrel at one time.

I think that is awesome

cool there common.... but iv never dug one and i bet i wont again around here ....but i guess you never know

Nice find Dusty, It's not the value, it's the history. I'm snowed in here, can't wait till spring.

Same thing happened to me. Although Not as rare of an occurrence than yours as I'm in ca. Foothills where thousands of Chinese came over during the gold rush.
I've found four of them within 1/2 mi from my house. And one at my daughters school while she was playing on weekend.
Btw. Just found my eighth Chinese coin just a few hours ago. It's been almost a year since my last one so I was pumped.

they were brought over to Calif. by chineese that helped build the railroads in the 1800s
they would use them amoungst each other in the camps for currency - but then they became useless
so most were traded or sold as good luck tokens - and then later made into jewelry and other adornments
Ive found my first in 1976 at age 13

thanks for all the info and kind words .good luck to you all !

this is why it blew my mind....bc the signal wasnt the best but when i can get a repeatible signal ill dig it. this was mid 80s then down to 20s but more 20s then the other .and in the pic with the wire bolt and coin.. thats what i pulled out of the coin hole ... this place has been pounded by every detector known to man but its spring and the ground moves and reveal new stuff. i was just killing time digging clad that wasnt heard last fall while my kids played . besides its a coin iv never held or seen in real life. and if i wasnt "killing time" by swinging in a pounded area on a crap signal it would prob have stayed there forever !

There's a lot of things made in China now days... Including Mexico!
