Another mystery piece from the old farm - we find a lot of hand forged iron work but this one is pretty neat. The handle is a standard crank but the business end has a kind of universal joint - can't imagine what it would have been used for but someone did some fine forge work. The main handle part is 18" long, the 4 point U joint is 3" X 3" and there is still a 6" piece of the yoke attached - it broke off - no idea what it went into - maybe some kind of wagon jack?

Cool find. Please post a close up of the tip on the short end. Looking at first picture it looks like there is a notch across it th hat may been use to hold the crank in place once inserted.

The cross-section (for want of a better term) looks very much like a U-Joint off of a car or truck. Other than that I have no idea.

I added 2 photos of the short end - definite indent where it went in. The big wagon step was found near the crank too.
