Has anyone done any research on the Black Seminoles of Florida? They were mostly runaway slaves that were in Florida before the Seminoles. They formed alliances with the Seminoles and often intermarried. They were valued by the Seminoles as interpreters for dealings with the white military and pioneer settlers.

There has been an ongoing search in my area to locate two of their major towns that existed around 1830-1840, Pilaklikaha and Okihumpi. Both were towns frequented by Micanopy, a Seminole Chief, as he had wives in both towns. Pilaklikaha was abandoned and later burned to the ground by Gen. Gaines(?) after the massacre of Major Dade and his men near Bushnell, Florida, in 1835. This battle marked the beginning of the second Seminole War. This site is now a state park.

I would like to speak with anyone that might have any relevent knowledge of these towns as they are both within 15 miles of where I grew up.
