I found this in while metal detecting in my creek. At first I thought it was a nail, but both ends are pointed. I think it is iron, and covered in black patina. I found it maybe 6-7 inches in very rocky low oxygen soil. There were huge rocks I had to move over it. Does anyone have idea on what it is or how old? Thanks! 462825D6-382F-4C38-AC28-DF15A5852F62.webp80635E8A-55F3-4EF0-A4D4-27AA52BBCAF3.webp

Just a rusted piece of wire, that's what I see from detecting for forty some years.

Okay, I suppose you're probably right about it being just a piece of trash. I was hoping it was something, due to me finding a lot of old things in that particular creek section. Completely baffled on how deep it was. Thanks!

Looks to be pure iron, hard to tell if it was blacksmith-made though. :icon_scratch:
As old digger already suggest, it could be from just about anything.
