I found this in the South Carolina low county. I is very atypical of what I have run across so far. It is not magnetic that I can discern. It rang up at 86-87 on the AT-Pro. It has a weight of 64 grams. It seems to have a specific gravity around 5.33 (done with a kitchen scale and a wine glass of water for displacement - so it is likely not perfect). It is clearly conductive, but less dense than iron, lead, and silver. It is more dense than aluminum for sure - that can be felt in the hand easily. It is pretty cold to the touch indicating that it is largely made of metal. The shape is odd, and there appears to be dimpling on one side if the item in particular.

I thought maybe it was some slag, but there is nothing nearby that would be a source, and it is not magnetic. I think most slag is. Then again, it seems most meteorites are magnetic as well. The silver scratch on the photo is from my digging tool when recovering the object.

So, basically I have no clue. I am pretty sure that it is not a meteorite as that would just be insane, but I am having trouble figuring out what it might be. Any help is appreciated!

Howdy neighbor, I'm in the low-country as well, would love to see what you've found, but I see no image in your post.

I don't think it's a meteorite, it could be a piece of metal that got melted in a fire.

You can get some clue as to what type of metal it is by grinding/filing a "window" on the edge/end to see if the metal inside looks to be pure and the graining of the metal.

You can also do a steak test on an unglazed piece of ceramic, such as the bottom ring of a coffee cup or the underside of a toilet lid, to see what color the streak is.

Thanks, AU Seeker

I just tried the streak test, but I am color blind :) I asked my wife, and she thought that it was grey. Here is a pic.
