Metal Detecting
Detecting in an early 1900s neighborhood when I pull up what appears to be a copper, which is totally unexpected. It appeared to have damage. Upon getting it home and cleaning it up some, it appears to have a conjoined twin.

The large cent is a matron head, best I can tell. It appeared to have another coin pressed into it. The smaller coin appeared to be of nickel. With a little investigating, I am of the mind that the joined coin is a Swiss 20 Rappen from the early 1900s. Most bizarre large cent I have ever found...and my first of the year.

Also got a nice Barber Dime.

are you sure that the side the coin is pressed in isn't lead fill?

No, not sure. But it is hard and does not scratch easily. I look at the damage on each side and it looks like the two pieces were clamped together. But the back of the large cent does look to have extra material and lacks detail.

In the 2nd photo it appears to have an iron attachment point at the 4 o'clock position. I'm thinking a rosette that has had the coin smashed into it.

I am also curious if the Swiss coin is actually a coin or just an imprint?

I see what you're saying. Interesting theory.

I am of the opinion that it is indeed a coin. It is somewhat unique in that it is not perfectly round, but has an edge that is a series of small flats (hard to see in the pic). Not sure if that is consistent with a Rappen coin but would indicate to me a separate piece. It also has a bit of patina flaked off with red showing underneath, similar to other old nickels I have found. That seems consistent with certain Rappen coins. And upon further inspection, I think it is smaller than a 20 Rappen, it measures about 19mm, so 10 Rappen. All Rappen denominations had the same design.
