Bizarre Disk with Holes

Anybody know what this could be? It measures about 2 inches in diameter and is slightly mangled. It has 4 holes, 2 of the same size, the other two of different sizes. Thanks for looking!

Yes, part of a watch. If you look closely, there may be some writing on it, even a date.

Also if made of brass/bronze may be inner part of a WWI shell timer. I found some at Bethany beach last year. These are fairly thick.

Those mechanical parts like a watch were in use in WWII, too. Find them unfortunately often along with fragments of driving bands (is that correct in English for the copper band that takes up the rifling?).

The thing you found has the typical look like it was part of a "very fast and very violent chemical reaction". If found in playgrounds i´d say "another 8.8."

Yes, "driving-band" is the correct term in the 20th Century. In the 1800s, the Ordnance Department (and artilleryman's) term for the metal ring on the body of an artillery projectile which "took the rifling grooves" was sabot... and that term is still sometimes used today.
