Nice coin with a nice scratch!
I found this quarter a few years ago in a city park about 40 miles from home.
The coin was under a tree root, and I getting a little frustrated trying to get it out.
Then, to add to the frustration, this guy who was having a picnic with his family, came over to tell me that there was nothing left in the park because he detected it allready. Then he had the gall to tell me that he had a better detector, and that mine wasn't as good as his.
As I kept digging, he commented on how he thought I should be retrieving the coin with a probe instead of using a knife. Yeah, right!
Try probing out a coin from under a 1 1/2 inch thick tree root.
Anyway this is what I got out of his worked out park.

You should of put this in Zeb's standing quarter thread. You're great man! I think i'll sit this one out. ;)

bk,

When exactly is a site "hunted out"? Most people say a site is hunted out when they cannot make any more finds but that in no way means there is nothing left. Something else may be found by someone with a "better detector" or better skills. A highly skilled detectorist with a below average metal detector is likely to be able to find something in that park the also-rans "hunted out" with their "better" detectors.

Nice coin, BK. I hope you showed it to him. There is so much ground to cover in a park, there's no way it could be hunted out.

great coin, scratched are not i would take it,

Nice find.

Great story.

There's an old saying - "Living well is the best revenge". In this case - "Hunting well is the best revenge".

nice find. i would have told that guy off if it was me. you sure showed him no place is ever hunted out. good for you , keep it up and hh

Beauty find, mate; even with a scratch!

I found one of my best coins in a "hunted out" park, lol. This next week I will be hunting my first "virgin" grounds, an old 3 story wooden schoolhouse that was torn down about 40 years ago, site is still bare, foundations are still in place. I can't wait!

Congrats! That is a great find!

I would check carefully as the 1918/17S Overdate lists for $1500 in G4 rating.
Although it does not clearly look like an overdate error from the pic, I certainly would scrutinize completely.

Very nice! Thanks,

Really great coin. I bet that ended the conversation when you pulled that out of the ground. HH
