Note patina. dark colored shale is "fresh" breakage relatively speaking. Duller coloration is patina normally associated with exposure to elements (water, minerals etc.) , note patina in drill hole, drill hole is typical cone shaped with rings from the impression of the flaked drill bit as it rotated in its task.
these observable points are some of what to look for in an authentic piece.
take care and happy hunting

Yes it is natural.

They mostly look like authentic artifacts to me, at least I think slate roofing with nail holes could be considered an artifact.

Man a guy leaves for the weekend and .....If I ever post any artifact that is not authentic on this site it is my sincere wish that any moderator here sends me packing.
Under magnification the drilled hole is quite revealing as to authenticity.
a roofing tile...you Sir are hilarious...imo

I enjoy having some fun every now and then :hello2: But seriously, I love this archeology chit (and this site):icon_thumleft:

On a serious note: Check the reinforced patterns on the backside blade and tip area (not to mention the wear patterns on the face), I mean..."Natural", right?

without having in hand to examine I wouldn't speculate one way or the other. Too many variables unknown to me. where found, context of associated materials...
