Birmingham Michigan.....

Okay, Birmingham is a city that sits in Oakland County that is in the State of Michigan. The river that runs through it is the Rouge River. By this time next week I will have a place that you can enter it and pan for placer gold. I will find out from the city if it is legal to enter it from their shores and if we need a permit to pan. There is way to much treasure and fun here in Michigan to go trapzing across the country in search of lost mines and millions in gold. We have it here and this is where I am gonna start. Anyone care to join?

I'm in, if I'm in town when you go. Only thing is, I don't know how to pan for gold! I live about 10 minutes from there and drive through there all the time. In fact, I detected a road tearup in Birmingham on the Rouge River last week ,

Fantastic Ian! Did you find anything? I will be glad to have you along. I am a newbie to all of this also but I have been reading how everyone wants to go out to places like Arizona, California, and such. there is so much here in Michigan if we just look and research.

Keep your eyes open for old bottles while on the Rouge...its been a dumping ground for ever...also...wear rubber gloves...Joe

yes, do wear rubber gloves and keep hand wash with you. the rouge river is very polluted! good luck though! mike!

Also try Paint Creek. It runs through downtown Rochester which is just Northeast of Birmingham. It has shown quantities of placer gold in the past and is much cleaner.

The Rouge was ranked as one of the most polluted rivers in the country at one time...there has been so much industrial waste dumped into it in the last 100 years that it glows in the dark. However, this was much more prevelant in the Southern end of it's flow beginning around Dearborn where Hank Ford was building his T's & A's.

Howdy Dennis,

Have you gotten to Birmingham yet? I'm in Waterford, but work out of Royal Oak, so I travel that area every day. I've got a little experience panning and have all of the needed equipment including a couple of home made classifiers.

If you're still looking to do this, let me know, I'm interested.

I am trying to find a place upriver or downriver from birmingham to enter. I am sure that the gold will be in the river where ever we enter.

Thanks

Dennis
