Hi There,

I found this little rock inside a piece of shale which has some fossils on it like trilobites, I think the rock looks like an osprey on one side and a small bird or fish on the other, do you think it could be a piece of art or has it just happened naturally. birds from stone 001.webpbirds from stone 004.webpbirds from stone 005.webpbirds from stone 006.webpbirds from stone 007.webpbirds from stone 010.webpbirds from stone 010.webp

Not sure I see a bird in there. My guess you have some kind of ancient fossilized sea creatures. If it was a bird fossil. Paleontologist & Ornitologist would be going ape Sh** . I'm sure someone on this sight will know what it is you have. Can you tell us the location of your find?

Piece of a shell or coral. As Tamrock said - biological and earth science would be astonished as you'd have put birds on earth 350 million years sooner than the rest of the fossil record shows if one was in a layer with trilobites.

I was thinking that maybe the bird was painted on the stone, not a fossil.

Surely you would agree it looks like a osprey

Are you suggesting it is a 350 million year old piece of art ?

Artwork has been found in rocks dated to millions of years ago. This would suggest the dating methods are way off. It looks like a magpie, not osprey. The curve of the beak is more gentle, not a hook.

Hey, forget the rock. Go for the trilobites. They are worth more...

I'm Sorry..... I now see the bird. Pretty cool how nature can arrange itself. I'm with Mekong Delta Mike. I see a Magpie there.
